My people sketching went a little different this time around. Typically, I draw at places where people are sedentary and it’s easy for me to study them and capture a—I hesitate to say—more true likeness of them.

People at flea markets don’t actually stay still, which is much more challenging for trying to capture them completely, or at all really. People moved away before I had a good time to look at them and I was initially fussy and anxious about it. After some time I realized the most important thing to capture were the facial features (to practice faces) and the gesture of the person. My later sketches show me getting to grips on that.

It’s still tough for me, but I think this was a valuable experience.
