Introduction
Cuteness is a Weapon but it Cuts Us Too is made by Ivy Atoms and Cute Hospital. I’m not sure it can be gotten online, so go catch them at a show! I traded for it at the 2016 East Bay Alternative Book and Zine Fest.
Thoughts
Cute. What pops into your mind when you think about that word? Something is cute. Someone is cute. That is cute. You’re probably thinking about actions that lend to something being cute. It’s an interesting word isn’t it? As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Not everyone will share the same sentiment in what you think is cute. I think all of YOU are pretty cute.
I digress.
Cuteness is a Weapon but it Cuts Us Too is an art zine full of cute as well as macabre imagry and sentiments. Eschewing just cute art, this zine takes a different direction with work that is can be considered cute, thought-provoking, and a little explicit. It explores a different side of being cute, the side full of self-doubt, the agony of selfies, and makeup. The zine look as cuteness as a double-edged sword, mostly the edge that isn’t seen. What does it take to be cute? This zine may not give all the answers, but you will think about it.
